Evagoras Papasavvas will compete with HMD Motorsports this weekend at Barber Motorsports Park for the second round of the INDY NXT by Firestone season, driving the No. 24 car in his debut in the INDYCAR development series.

“I'm incredibly excited to join HMD Motorsports for the Grand Prix of Alabama," Papasavvas said. "After a productive test at Mid-Ohio, I feel ready to take on the challenge. The car is amazing, and the team has made me feel right at home. I’m grateful to HMD Motorsports for the opportunity, and I’m focused on delivering the best result possible and learning as much as I can this weekend."

This announcement comes after a successful recent test session at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Ohio native Papasavvas, 17, who was named as a reserve driver for HMD Motorsports earlier in the season.

Papasavvas comes to INDY NXT after racing the last three seasons in USF 2000 for Jay Howard Driver Development, with three victories. He placed fourth in series points in 2023 and 2024.

“Evagoras impressed us with how quickly he adapted during the Mid-Ohio test," HMD Motorsports President Mike Maurini said. "He showed maturity and speed beyond his years, and we’re looking forward to seeing him compete at Barber. It’s a big step, but we’re confident he’ll handle it well.”

Papasavvas replaces German driver Sophia Floersch, who mutually agreed to part with the team after the season-opening Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

The Grand Prix of Alabama takes place at 11:30 a.m. ET Sunday, May 4, with live coverage on FS1 and the INDYCAR Radio Network.
